KINKTOBER: SMUT 101 (NSFW. EXTREMELY NSFW)

By: Anonymous (ifykyk 😉)

Well, here it is. My pride and joy. My baby. My peak. The culmination of years and years of furtively burying my head in pages so no one can see the words, of dimming the screen in public transportation settings. Of whispering to my friends, giggling and blushing, the unholy things I read the other night.

But I am no longer afraid of the light. I am stepping out of the shadows, unafraid, and gazing unflinchingly at you  (yes, yes, nevermind that I’m anonymous), dear reader, to say this: I am a smut reader — nay, a smut LOVER.

The erotic, the spicy, the lemons, the sexy, the steamy — bring them on.  Werewolves in heat; monsters with both cocks and vaginas; aliens with unceasing stamina; fae that shake mountains when they orgasm; angels with G-spots on their wings; plain old humans — bring them all on.

So, everyone, kick back and relax. Clutch some pearls. Bookmark this website. Because I’m about to rock your world with some of the best — and if not the best, the most, uh, notable — smutty books I’ve ever read.

DISCLAIMER: This list is non-comprehensive and not inclusive of all races, gender identities, sexual identities, and backgrounds and such 😭 Also, it is completely unreflective of the reality of how sex and attraction actually work and definitely has harmful stereotypes and problematic messaging and stuff. Please, if a hot alien kidnaps you and threatens to kill your family if you don’t have sex with him — don’t fall in love with him. These books are just what I, a cishet single sexually-liberated yet still-a-virgin woman, read to fill the void inside me.

Anywayyyyys, have fun!

CONTEMPORARY/LIGHT/FLUFFY (Starting off slow and easy.)

  • House in the Cerulean Sea:  M/m romance. Found family. This book was like sinking your toes into the sand on a golden beach day. It filled my heart with perfect warmth. Not smutty, but it had the vibes.

  • Ugly Love: Second chance. Enemies to lovers. Trauma — because it’s Colleen Hoover, you know. Now, this book isn’t very light or very fluffy — and Colleen Hoover is … something, that’s for sure. I read this a while back though before I had critical thinking skills! The sex, I remember, was quite nice. Just ignore everything else that happens.

  • Beach Read: Enemies to lovers, sunshine and grumpy. Maybe I’m just an emotional wussy but I didn’t think this book was very light or fluffy either, so don’t be fooled by the cover. I came for smut, and ended up crying (this happens to me a lot). This was still a great read, though.

  • Nanny for the Neighbors: Reverse harem, surprise baby, found family, finally we get a book that is, in fact, contemporary, light, and fluffy. Reading this was just pure fun and joy, like sparkling champagne. Chef’s kiss.

  • Kiss Quotient: I don’t actually remember this book very well, but I do know it was extremely cute and had a good depiction of Asperger’s (hopefully that’s the consensus).

  • Red White & Royal Blue: M/m romance, enemies to lovers,  need I say more? Check out the movie too. But read the book first — it’s a lot spicier.

ACTUALLY FUCKING GOOD PLS READ THIS/SEXY AND SAD LITERATURE (I’m serious).

  • Song of Achilles: M/m romance, Greek Mythology, tears, heartbreak … dude, I don’t know. Just reflecting about this book and reducing it to tags was hard enough. This is my all-time favorite novel — of all time. It was beautiful, poetic, sexy, powerful, and everything.

  • Kushiel’s Legacy: Political intrigue, enemies to lovers, fantasy, world-building galore — woahhhh. Yeah. This is one of the most insane, rollercoaster, immersive fantasy books I’ve ever read. This is not a book you read in little snippets on the bus; this is a book you plug in your headphones for, sink in, and look up hours later sweaty and confused and thirsty.

  • The Inheritance Trilogy: Just like Kushiel’s Legacy. Refer to above description.

ROMANTASY (Aka my literal antidepressant.)

Okay, so we’re finally getting into it. I need to hurry it up though, so rapid fire —

  • Sarah J Maas: Chosen one, fairy porn, hot people, trauma, magic, you get the idea.

    • Throne of Glass

    • ACOTAR

    • Crescent City

  • Nalini Singh: A LOT of hot people (like, a ton). But also some pretty sexy world building. Every book is a different couple — isn’t that just amazing.

    • Psy-Changeling

    • Guild Hunter

  • Black Dagger Brotherhood: See Nalini Singh.

  • The Red: This whole thing honestly felt like a fever dream. You don’t need drugs, you just need this book.

  • Burn for Me: Urban fantasy, enemies-to-lovers. I can’t explain it but this series just feels like the epitome of Kenergy.

  • Laura Thalassa

    • Pestilence: Making the end of the world look really sexy.

    • Rhapsodic: Making me want to make a deal with the devil.

MONSTER/PARANORMAL/ALIEN (Woahhh there.)

  • Tempting Monsters: Monster smut and historical fantasy. Also Tik Tok famous but don’t let that alarm you.

  • Addison Cain: This is one of my favorite authors of all time, if you ignore all the lawsuit drama and her inability to finish a series and achieve a deadline. Be warned, though — this stuff is wack.

    • Irdesi Series

    • Thirst

  • Wyn: This, my friends, is the one with the monster that has both a cock and a vagina (though it’s described as a slit in the book, boring). You’re welcome!

  • Orc Sworn Series: For your sake, don’t imagine the orcs from Lord of the Rings. Instead, just imagine muscular hot men who just happen to be green.

  • Captive of the Horde King: This is also the part where I repeat myself — if a hot alien kidnaps you and threatens to kill your family if you don’t have sex with him, don’t fall in love with him. Otherwise, go have fun.

  • Interstellar Brides Program: I make no claims on the quality of the books in this series. I just know I read a lot of them.

OMEGAVERSE/BDSM/UNHINGED & TOXIC/TABOO (Grab your pearls, folks.)

  • Crossfire: This is either a Fifty Shades of Grey knockoff or what Fifty Shades of Grey aspires to be. I haven’t decided yet.

  • If I Were You: This feels like something that a 35-year-old single woman would read on her self-care night. Honestly, slay.

  • Original Sinners: I most definitely sealed my fate in Hell after reading this series. Oh well.

  • Addison Cain (Hello again!)

    • Born to be Bound

    • Wren’s Song

    • Decadence

  • Truth by His Hand: M/m romance, BDSM … okay, let’s stop for a second. This was a fantastic, toe-curling book. I put it off for a long time because the main character is a muscular, tall submissive and the person he falls in love with is a shorter, nerdy dominant — and so I was afraid the whole schtick of the book would be about toxic masculinity. But holy crap, was I wrong. I think I may be a sapio-sexual now. Goddamn.

  • Slow Heat: This book was so graphic it made even me feel embarrassed and blush.

  • Captive Prince: Think Game of Thrones — but hotter and sexier.

  • Lola and the Millionaires:  Why have only two people having sex when you can have multiple? Why even have them be normal humans?

  • Gaven: See Captive Prince.

  • Filthy Rich Boys: Enemies-to-lovers — like, seriously, the girl is bullied by her harem of future lovers.

  • Penelope Douglas: The quintessential dark romance author!

    • Birthday Girl

    • Credence

    • Corrupt

  • Bass-ackwards: I genuinely have no idea what possessed me to read this.

  • Tillie Cole: Take a deep breath. These are next-level.

    • Deadly Virtues

    • Sick Fux

    • Lord of London Town

  • Asking for It: TW: SA — Huge, huge, huge trigger warnings for this!

  • I, Omega: See Slow Heat.

HONORABLE MENTIONS (Just had an … inch-resting time with these.)

  • Morning Glory Milking Farm: I can’t say if I find this book sexy. I was certainly fascinated and intrigued. But also deeply repulsed.

  • Fifty Shades of Grey: Eh. It was alright.

  • Call Me By Your Name: I’ll be honest, the only reason why I read this book is because it had Timothee Chalamet on the cover.
