Big Straw takes to the streets for dinner again! This time, we’ve gone to Tasty Noodle in Squirrel Hill. They miraculously had a table large enough to fit all of us.
Dharma: They have good noodles here, particularly the biang biang noodles. All their noodles have different textures that were really satisfying to switch between bites. The beef noodle soup wasn’t too salty and the noodles were springy. The noodles with peppers had a nice amount of salty that I wish the tomato egg noodles had. More egg as well, I love eggs.
Meabyn: (ordered spicy chicken dry noodles i forget the name exactly), very generous portions, love the pickled peppers in the dish (added crunch + acid + heat), sauce wasn’t spicy enough i was still dousing it in chili oil lmfao, i also had a couple dumplings and ¼ of a beef pancake, the former was fine i mean it’s a dumpling it’s kind of hard to fuck up a dumpling, the latter had good crunch and seasoning and that’s about it
Andrew: I loved all the noodles, but specifically the beef onion? Noodles. I love meat :). Besides that, the sandwiches were also really good. I didn’t try the biang biang but I’m sure they were v good.
Namya: I wish they had more vegetarian options :( I ordered the one they did have and it was very good! Huge portion too — it lasted 2 meals for me. Given the price I think that’s really a steal. I hear it’s authentic from people of the culture soooo thumbs up from me!
Avi: Try the liang pi. It’s got a nice tang to it and a nice jelly-like texture. I love how the cucumber gave it a bit of a cronch. I ordered the original lamb noodle soup which uhh it made me realize I don’t like lamb, too gamey lol. But if you do like lamb, it’s good! The soup’s nice – it has a nice taste to it without being too salty, and I like the texture mix of both wide noodles and glass noodles.
Iris: Noodle texture was on point. I low-key thought we ordered tomato beef noodle soup so I was a bit surprised but it grew on me. Did I mention every noodle dish’s noodles were on point. Tasted nostalgic, the right kind of cheap, good vibes
Claire: Noodles yay! Overall things tasted good, with flavors that feel like they’d be authentic, without being complex whatsoever. The tomato egg noodles were oddly sticky, the texture almost as if eating the feeling of petting a frog. It’s the same for those noodles with chicken, though to a lesser degree. No complaints about anything else, especially the soup beef noodles which tasted of that one unmistakable flavor everybody should try at least once.
Santiago: Everything delicious! The tomato egg noodles had a wonderful chewy texture, and the soup beef noodles were a definite comfy highlight– on a freakishly stormy day like when we visited, soup always hits!
Laila: Tasty Noodle is exactly what it advertises. I had a huge bowl of beef noodle soup along with a couple of sides like the crunchy pig ears and the chewy pork dumplings. I was a bit bummed out that several of their menu options were unavailable, but it was still very delicious! Maybe next time I’ll be able to try their other options.
