Sasquatch Snowda

I tried this drink from Yinz Coffee with my friend who lives a short walk away from their Friendship location called The Sasquatch Snowda and I felt the need to write out my thoughts on it.The Sasquatch Snowda is described as “a bright, bubbly mix of blueberry & peppermint bark with espresso & soda water - mysterious, cool and totally refreshing.” I beg to differ, I’m afraid.

Upon first sip, you get the mint flavour first, then the blueberry. The drink kind of fades into the blueberry taste; the blueberry starts where the peppermint ends. The espresso is pretty far in the background and it’s really only apparent in the slight bitter aftertaste. The soda water also fizzes out on your tongue while all this is happening. It feels like the baristas peeled the blueberries before putting them into the syrup/extract they poured into the drink. We got absolutely no chocolate bark flavor, just pure peppermint from it. Perhaps I am reminded of the time I got wasted on peppermint schnapps freshman year and I’m just instinctively repulsed by anything overly peppermint now.

When examining the entire cup, the drink kind of looks like it's separating??? I took the lid off and used my straw to suck up the frothy stuff on the very top. I could feel the pieces of what I think was the peppermint chocolate bark but they immediately dissolved on my tongue. And if you sip the Sasquatch Snowda without a straw, you get a more diluted taste because the ice is melting at the top. Presumably the espresso gave the drink a classic sandy tan color. I thought it would be colored blue because of the blueberry. I think that would’ve made this drink more fun visually and I would’ve excused the weird taste a bit more had it been a vibrant cobalt. Or sky blue like one of those expensive Erewhon smoothies.

This drink was only available in the 20 ounce size. The biggest size possible. Why???? I wouldn’t be able to enjoy a single ounce of this let alone 20 ounces.

It feels like your body resets after you finish taking a sip and represses the memory of what it tastes like so it just hits you everytime with how weird it is. I truly believe my friend and I are the only people to ever order this weird drink. I wouldn’t even say The Sasquatch Snowda is a bad drink, it was so baffling I just can’t comprehend why anyone thought it would make them profit. Or how someone came up with this flavour profile.
